I Pre-Ordered my 32Gig iPhone 5 last week and it arrived today.

After dinner I posted my 16 Gig iPhone 4 on Craigslist for $250 at 7:53pm.

At 8:37 I met a guy at McDonalds and sold it

Net cost $100 (and 44 minute)

That's gotta be some sort of record!

In-case you did not know, today is National POW MIA Recognition Day

Help Us Father;
Inspire us to remove the obstacles.

Give courage to those who know the truth to speak out.
Grant wisdom to the negotiators,
and compassion to the jailors.

Inspire the media to speak out as loudly
as they have in the past.
Protect those who seek in secret
and help them to succeed.
Show us the tools to do Your will.

Guard and bless those in captivity, their families,
and those who work for their release.
Let them come home soon.
Thank you Father.

A New Year brings the same old fears...

I don't have anything super witty and interesting to share with you this week. My mind is on quite a few other things, pending deals at work, getting some things around the house taken care of before my heavy travel season picks up in October, and getting my Butt handed to me by Grant Siphers in Fantasy Football this week... Dang you Andre Johnson... I swear that guy is either the best player or worst player week to week.

I digress... Although I have nothing in particular to write about this week I didn't want a whole week to go by without posting something. So, I saw this photograph this morning and wanted to share it with you. This is a photograph of a Palestinian Child holding what appears to be .45 handgun. This is at a protest in Palestine that is going on right now. The importance of the fact that this is going on right now is that the Israelis are celebrating their new year "Rosh Hashanah" which ushers in the beginning of their Holy Holiday Season. So at a time when they should be celebrating with Family and enjoying their beliefs and faith, they are actually being threatened... by a five year old as it were. I just Pray that some form of rest and resolution can be found over there, it is something that I read about everyday, and that concerns me more and more everyday.

Stan the Ankylosaurus goes to Phoenix..

Stan was sad when he got to Phoenix and saw that it was raining...

...but he was excited to see the scenery...

...he calmed down once he we got to the hotel and saw how nice and comfy it was...

...and he found that the next day was beautiful and sunny...

...but he didn't like the local menu (being an herbivore)....

Because Rich People Hate to Be Inconvenienced...

In case you don't alraedy know, I travel quite a bit for work. Not as much as some, but definitely more than most. So I was pleasantly surprised by my experience with TSA this morning.

Apparently if you travel a bunch then you get to join this super secret underground society called TSA Pre-Check. I was never told that I had been initiated into this fraternal organization of the cosmopolite travelers of the world, but nonethless the perks of membership were made known to me today!

"Not that line Mr. Evans, you've been cleared for the special line".. Wink wink... As I was ushered further to the left of all of the other passengers awaiting their torturous full-body exrays and the like.

And what awaited me in this super elite, ultra modern, newest of the new security line of the future? Nothing more than a trip back to the 1990's. A quick jaunt through security without having to take my belt off, without having to remove my shoes, without having to take my liquids and personal electronics out of my bag, and most importantly of all... Without a 30 minute long line causing me to question my sanity and other people's ability to comprehend simple tasks that are both presented in writing and simultaneously dictated to them aloud.

So, for you travel NOOBs and normal folk out there who aren't as experienced as I in the ways of the jetways... I hope beyond hope... That you... NEVER have the ability to use this line or you'll just gum it up for the rest of us.

The Great God Debacle of 2012...

Last night at the DNC a motion was passed to amend the the paragraph that I mentioned two days ago to include the word God. The motion was brought by Govenor Ted Strickland of Ohio, a Methodist Minister, who was had a part in writing the original draft of the Party Platform but had some second thoughts. He stated that "...our faith and belief in God is central to the American story and informs the value we have expressed in our party's platform. In addition, President Obama recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and our party's platform should as well..."

I commend Govenor Strickland for standing up for what he believes in, but after a closer re-watch of the proceedings you'll see that something a little fishy was going on. This is the type of railroading of policies and decisions that has no part of our political system. An voice vote was taken by the DNC Chair, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. THREE TIMES! Each time it was obvious that the votes were split right up the middle; 50% Aye and 50% Nay. But in the end he chose to push the amendment through against his party's wishes.

The problem I have with this is not the outcome, I don't give a flying crap about the minutia in the DNC Party Platform, the big issues are still in there and that's what truly matters. The scary part of this is that THE PEOPLE'S VOICE WASN'T HEARD! The basis for our government at it's very root is to be "by the people for the people" and at times it feels like "the people" have no control whatsoever.

If my vote is supposed to carry on with the delegates who represent me, but then I see a proceeding where the delegate's vote isn't even being heard, than how... please someone tell me... how does my vote count? Now I'm not one of these crazies who think that a revolution is coming, and I'm not quite accusing the current administration of steering our government towards a socialist regime. I'm not stockpiling ammunition and canned goods, but little by little, moments in time like this video clip from last night begin to legitimize the fears and ideas of those who do.

So take some time and think about it today, email your Congressperson and Senators. Or just complain about what you witnessed to someone sitting next to you at lunch waiting for their sandwich.

Houston TX, in the rankings...

I took my Dad see a stand-up comedy show last night for his Birthday after gorging on Niko Niko's for dinner. The show was at 'Mango's Cafe' on Westheimer. There were 4 comics in the evening's lineup. A female comic named Dusty Rhodes who was funny in that uncomfortable self deprecating way, a guy who I cannot remember the name of who was heading to LA to try to get picked up for a sit-com I suppose, and @ChaseDurousseau, a "Khaki N-Word" as he told us Slim Thug referred to him on set once.

The headliner, and the reason for my attendance, was @PaulOddo , a comic currently living in Queens, NY but who grew up in the same neighborhood that I did. He was absolutely hilarious, his style of comedy wasn't one of telling jokes and hitting punch lines, but rather just telling stories of the weird crap that happens to him from day to day.

The night was closed up by Paul's little brother Chris Oddo's band 'Mikey and the Drags'. If you like loud garage rock you'll enjoy them.

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda...

People are talking about the differences between the 2 paragraphs below, and pointing out the lack of GOD in the second. While I don't like that it has been removed, my biggest concern is the constant use of the word SHOULD in the 2012 democratic platform. 3 times it appears  SHOULD is the basis for the type of world where I don't want to live, where everyone gets what they "SHOULD"... this is scary people! Should is the worst word in the English language when it comes to politics, it's the root of all entitlement.

My Mom used to say this about this subject, "Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda..." which was another way of telling me the world isn't fair! I hope the people who stand behind this platform realize the danger of this word.

This is the paragraph that was in the 2008 platform:

“We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”

This is the paragraph that was in the 2012 platform:

“We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.”

The reason for the blog...

Hello internet... err people who I know who happen upon this blog,

I decided to create this blog as a way of pointing out the things in this world that I notice on a day to day basis that make me happy; frustrate me; cause me to be embarrassed to be a human; bring me joy; stress me out; make me laugh; or anything else that I in my infinite wisdom feel my friends need to know. I hope that someone enjoys it, and if not that is fine too. I am ultimately just creating a place for my crazy to live.

I better get off the toilet now,

Austin (get it?) Evans

P.S. Thanks to 'Grish' for the handle...
